Local & Gas Safe

A gas engineer from Burntwood who does it properly

Gas work is not something to take chances on. Every job is carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer — the legal standard for working on gas in the UK — and you are always welcome to ask to see the ID card.

Being based in Burntwood means you get a familiar, local engineer rather than a faceless call centre. I turn up when I say I will, explain what the problem is in plain English, and give you a clear price before any work goes ahead — so there are no nasty surprises when the job is done.

Whether it is a boiler that will not fire, a service that is overdue, a landlord certificate you need in a hurry, or a new cooker to connect, it is the same phone number and the same honest advice every time.

  • Gas Safe registered — the legal standard, ID card available on request
  • Straight pricing — a clear quote up front, with nothing added on afterwards
  • Honest advice — repair or replace, we will tell you what we would do ourselves
  • Clean and tidy — we treat your home with respect and leave it as we found it

Prompt, professional and highly recommended. Andy had our boiler back up and running within 24 hours of looking at it — including sourcing and fitting the parts — and kept us fully in the loop the whole time.

Really quick to reply and no mess left behind. Clear about what needed doing and got it sorted without any fuss. Exactly what you want from a local gas engineer.

Questions

Gas & boiler questions, answered

The things people ask us most. If yours is not here, call 07414 946214 and just ask.

Are you Gas Safe registered?

Yes. All gas work at Andy Thomas Gas Services is carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer — that is the legal requirement for anyone working on gas appliances and pipework in the UK, and it is not something to compromise on. You are always entitled to ask to see the engineer's Gas Safe ID card, which shows exactly what they are qualified to work on, and you can check any registration on the official Gas Safe Register at gassaferegister.co.uk. If in doubt, always ask.

How much does a new boiler cost in Burntwood?

There is no single figure, because it depends on the type of boiler (combi, system or conventional), the make you choose, and how much the installation involves — a straight like-for-like swap is very different from moving the boiler or upgrading the whole system. Rather than quote a misleading headline price, we look at your home and your hot-water needs and give you a clear, itemised fixed price with no obligation. Call 07414 946214 or use the callback form and we will arrange to take a look.

How often should a boiler be serviced?

Once a year. An annual service keeps the boiler running safely and efficiently, catches small problems before they become expensive breakdowns, and is required by most manufacturers to keep the warranty valid. Booking it for the same time each year — many people choose late summer or early autumn, before the heating goes back on — makes it easy to remember and means you are not left without heat in the cold.

What should I do if I smell gas?

Treat it seriously. Do not turn any electrical switches on or off, do not use naked flames, and open doors and windows to ventilate. Turn the gas off at the meter if you can safely reach it, and call the National Gas Emergency line on 0800 111 999 straight away — it is free and open 24 hours. Once the emergency service has made the area safe, we can trace the leak, repair the faulty pipework or fitting, and carry out a tightness test to confirm the system is safe again.

Do you provide landlord gas safety certificates (CP12)?

Yes. If you let out a property you are legally required to have every gas appliance and flue checked every 12 months by a Gas Safe registered engineer, and to give tenants a copy of the Landlord Gas Safety Record (CP12). We carry these out across Burntwood and the surrounding area, usually issuing the certificate the same day. We are happy to work around tenants and can remind you when the next one is due.

My boiler has lost pressure / shows an error code — can you help?

Almost certainly. Low pressure, ignition failures, error codes, cold radiators and leaks are among the most common faults we see, and most are straightforward to diagnose once we are in front of the boiler. We work through the fault methodically, tell you what has caused it and what it will cost to fix before doing the work, and give you honest advice on whether the boiler is worth repairing or getting close to the point of replacement.

Which areas do you cover?

Burntwood, Chasetown, Chase Terrace and Boney Hay are our core patch, and we work out from there across Lichfield, Cannock, Hednesford, Norton Canes, Brownhills, Rugeley, Aldridge and the surrounding villages — around 30 areas in total across this part of Staffordshire and the West Midlands border. Our coverage page lists them all. If you are just outside the list, call anyway — we can usually still help.

Can you install a gas cooker, hob or fire?

Yes. Fitting or connecting any gas appliance must be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer to be legal and safe, so it is not a job for a general handyman. We install gas cookers, hobs, ovens, fires and heaters, safety-test the appliance and the connection, and can disconnect and remove your old appliance at the same time. If you are having a kitchen refitted, let us know the timings and we will fit around the other trades.

Do you charge a call-out fee?

We will always be upfront about costs before you commit to anything — no hidden charges and no work carried out without your say-so. When you call, tell us what the problem is and we will explain clearly how we price the visit and the repair. You will know where you stand before we start, which is how it should be.

How quickly can you come out?

As a local, Burntwood-based engineer we can often attend quickly, especially for urgent problems like a complete breakdown in cold weather or no hot water. Call 07414 946214 and we will give you a realistic idea of when we can get to you rather than a vague promise. For a genuine gas emergency — a strong smell of gas — always call 0800 111 999 first.

Do you work on all makes of boiler?

Yes. We service and repair gas boilers of all major makes and models — Worcester Bosch, Vaillant, Ideal, Baxi, Glow-worm and the rest. When it comes to a new installation we can advise on which brands offer the best reliability and warranty for your budget, and we register the warranty on your behalf once it is fitted.

How do I get a quote?

The quickest way is to call 07414 946214 and tell us what you need — a new boiler, a repair, a service, a safety certificate or an appliance fitted. For anything that needs a proper look, such as a boiler replacement, we will arrange to visit and give you a clear, fixed, no-obligation price. Prefer not to call? Fill in the callback form with a few details and we will get back to you, usually the same day.
